About VERITAS
Bret A. Schumacher, Principal
Bret Schumacher directs the firm's consulting and development efforts around the world. He brings extensive knowledge and maturity to lead in this capacity as principal of VERITAS by his executive experience from Florida to Hawaii, and places in between, including several years of international experience.
Previously he served as the Project Manager at Kukui’ula Development Company, Hawaii’s premier luxury mixed-use resort community covering over 1,000 acres on Kauai’s sunny south shore. While there, Bret was responsible for all aspects of residential planning, product development, and design for 1,500 homes with total revenue of $1.6B. Prior to Hawaii Bret served as the Development Manager for the St. Joe Company, Florida’s largest private land owner at nearly 800,000 acres. While there, Bret was responsible for the overall development of a series of environmentally sensitive, resort and second home projects called River Camps. In total, these communities consisted of over 32,000 acres of land and 1,700 planned residential units. Before Florida, Bret served in the development of a regional plan of nearly 93,000 acres all within 20 miles of downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. The first project consisted of 4,200 acres, 13,667 residential units, 9.5M square feet of commercial, retail, office and light industrial. Every building from schools, information centers, recreation centers, to each individual home was built to LEED and Energy Star environmental standards with over 1,500 acres out of the 4,200 total acres dedicated to parks and open space as a commitment to sustainable planning, design, and living.
Bret received a BS in Finance graduating magna cum laude from the University of Utah Eccles School of Business, and attended Harvard Business School with an emphasis in Real Estate Management. Bret also served honorably as a Meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force.
